Jaipur, the Capital of Rajasthan is a city full of wonders. From the magnificent Amber palace to its nickname, the pink city, everything about the city is amazing. I recently had the opportunity to visit Jaipur with my family, and it was a wonderful experience.

Jaipur has earned itself the nickname of the pink city. But how did it get this name? Many years ago, when Britain was still occupying India, the Maharaja of Jaipur was very friendly with the British. When the Queen of England and her son, Prince Albert, were on a tour of India, the Maharaja of Jaipur had everyone in his city paint the walls pink, which was the color of hospitality, earning Jaipur the nickname of the ‘pink city’.
Rajasthan is home to many beautiful palaces. My personal favorite was the Hawa mahal (shown above). In ancient Rajasthan, the Queens of the Maharaja were not allowed to be seen by the people. The Hava Mahal was built so the Queens could observe the bustling streets and markets without being seen. The Amber palace (shown below) was also quite magnificent. There were beautiful arches, and it was amazing to get a glimpse into the lives of kings of old. However, when visiting Jaipur, my family and I made a mistake. We visited in the peak of summer and scheduled a tour for the afternoon. The temperature was unbearable as it was around 120 °F. For anyone else who wants to experience this beautiful palace, I would recommend visiting Jaipur in the winter, or scheduling your tour for the morning before it gets hot.

Another thing I loved about Jaipur, there were animals everywhere in Jaipur. I saw small monkeys in the trees and wires, and we rode right by a parade of elephants. There was even a pond that we were not allowed to swim in because of crocodiles! In the hotel room I was staying in, I opened the blinds and saw a kite sitting on the railing. All of these animals, even the monkeys, are incredible in their own ways, and I was really excited about seeing them.
Visiting Jaipur was an amazing experience, and it truly deserves its status as a UNESCO world heritage city. Nicknamed famously as the pink city, Jaipur is home to many amazing pieces of architecture, and many incredible animals.
