My uncle Vinay is an IT manager who works in the pharmaceutical industry. As a manager, a lot of his time is spent on plans, calls and budgets. He manages multiple teams, balancing between their different needs. He is also responsible for the career growth of the individuals that report to him. He works about 11 hours a day, from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Why would someone choose a job with such a harsh schedule?

The main reason he works so hard is because he gets satisfaction and joy from helping people. IT managers are specialists in Information Technology, helping companies with their software needs. As an IT manager for Teva, he helps protect their pharmaceutical information, which is then used to make life-saving drugs.

This Pharma industry is very stable, which has both pros and cons. It is hard to move up the corporate ladder, since the stability of the profession incentivizes people to stay. However, you have a stable job, and will live quite comfortably. Most imporportantly, you save lives.

From my conversations, it appears that being an IT manager at a pharmaceutical company can be quite fullfilling, since you get to help so many people. In don't know about being in the pharma industry, but I do have experience in building fun computer games. I find building these games quite fun, since once you build them, you feel quite proud of yourself. To become an IT Manager, I would need to first get a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Information Technology or Computer Science.  Then, I could get a Master’s Degree to specialize in IT before getting some real world experience with a company.
